They can’t and they won’t since LPFM’s are prohibited from playing commercials! They rely on donations from listeners and businesses to stay on the air! The money they raise goes exclusively to their station equipment and transmission tower as well as giving back to their listeners! Here’s my problem with corporate radio! Are you ready? They have small playlists and far-away non-local DJ’s that voice track on dozens of stations. And some radio stations don’t have any DJ’s at all at certain times of the day! A single radio station that’s owned by one person is way better because unlike corporate radio, the owner isn’t greedy (I promise he isn’t). Now, if you are looking to hear Beabadoobee, Plain White T’s or The Temper Trap, you can go listen elsewhere because you won’t hear those slow alt-wannabies on Rock Hits 92.3 WXRK. I did a song search on the live stream just to make sure they haven’t and won’t EVER play them! Also since this is an independently owned radio station, if one staff member thinks a song sucks, he/she might be right! I’m sure it will still get played anyways because it’s only one person. I can give you an example. It would be Sublime’s 2025 track Ensenada. If all the other staff members agree that song sucks, then it’s goodbye and good riddance to that song. But so far, it’s still on the air so I guess it was a unanimous decision! All the decisions at this radio station are performed locally, not by some CEO or music consultants. If you want to run your own home-brewed radio station, go ahead and just broadcast whatever you want on any frequency you’d like and get away with it! The FCC won’t knock on your door! HOWEVER, it sure as hell better be a part 15 station, which has power measured in the microwatts, not miliwatts! And very few people realizes that radio takes up space, and that space is reserved for licensed radio stations such as 92.3 XRK! If the FCC didn’t exist to regulate radio stations, then LPFM’s such as 92.3 XRK would cease to exist! Interference would just run rampant and there would be no clear station to listen to. Everyone would just shake their radios around and hope for the best! So what’s the point I’m getting across? A license costs money! And guess what else costs money? A radio tower, but not just any tower, one that’s large enough and supported by guy wires so that everyone in town can hear the station! Just in case you’re interested in knowing, a broadcaster can’t just put a tower on a roof. There’s rules on that, especially in leased commercial zones. And not to mention that it would be unsafe to be that close to a tower in the event that someone needed to do roof maintenance. Then they would be lawsuits and everything else! A landlord is not going to take on that responsibility. That’s why towers need to be elevated hundreds of feet in the air. Automation is also expensive. The software gets their license fees, and don’t get me started on royalties either. The songwriter gets a commission from the record labels every time a song gets played on the radio. Also, have you ever noticed why one station is so much louder than another? It’s due to a compression method called audio processing which involves pre-emphasis and peak-limiting to stand out among the competition! Rock Hits 92.3 is loud for a reason, it just rocks and needs to be loud! Another cost factor is a professional-grade microphone. That certainly isn’t cheap either. But that’s just a few of the many expenses that a radio station pays! I’ve always known that it takes a miracle worker for an LPFM station to survive. You can be that miracle worker. Rock Hits 923’s Story

Mike Friend is the guy that owns this station. His goal is to make sure you hear all the rock music you wanted to hear! And he worked hard for achieving his 1,400 followers on Rock Hits 92.3’s Facebook page. He needs more followers, so follow him!!!! The idea stemmed from a corporate owned New York station with the same call letters, WXRK. You know what happened? Someone flipped his wig and decided to play musical chairs with their formats. Shame on him! There will be no flip-flopping here, because that’s just plain B.S! Rock music is here to stay! 92.3 XRK‘s got you covered!
